Documentation and Recordkeeping the WRITE Way
Often documentation and recordkeeping are viewed as being time consuming diversions from the most significant, hands on, dental treatment on which we, as dental caregivers, are taught to focus on. However far from a time consuming endeavor, written and computer records provide a detailed chronology of patient care and treatment that serves as an essential tool toward the implementation and follow through of a long-term successful dental care plan. Equally as important, however, records of uncompromising quality are a legal requirement and vital for protection against liability. This course guides the dental hygienist toward a clear, concise, consistent and systematic method of recording and maintaining patient’s records. Legal implications of inadequate record keeping, utilization of appropriate terminology, and oral pathology slides are used for illustrative purposes within the presentation. Knowledge acquired from this course can be used immediately in the day-to-day practice of dental hygiene.
